Ali Amirshahi – Richmond Criminal Lawyer

Ali J. Amirshahi graduated from Mary Washington College in 1988 and from the College of William and Mary Law School in 1992. He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1992 and to United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2000.

Mr . Amirshahi began his legal career with the Richmond Public Defender’s Office where he served as an Assistant Public Defender and then as a Senior Assistant Public Defender. Mr. Amirshahi left for private practice in 2000 and has maintained a practice since then.

As a practicing trial lawyer for 25 years, Mr. Amirshahi has tried over a hundred felony jury trials in state and federal court. He has handled close to a hundred homicide cases as well as thousands of other felony cases involving narcotic offenses, robberies, sexual offenses, larcenies and criminal racketeering conspiracies. Mr. Amirshahi specializes in Possession of Marijuana cases and in the defenses of Unreasonable Search and Seizure and Self- Defense.

Mr. Amirshahi also handles all traffic matters including Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving and Driving on Suspended Licenses. Mr. Amirshahi has also handled several Capital Murder cases in the City of Richmond. In addition to criminal defense, Mr. Amirshahi also handles Personal Injury and wrongful death cases.

Mr. Amirshahi enjoys playing guitar, sailing, cooking and spending time with his family when not in court.

Mr. Amirshahi is a member of the Richmond Criminal Bar Association and served as its president in 2014.
