Alan J. Schwartz began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of the County of Nassau in 1980, after which he went into private practice in 1985, forming the law firm of Reda & Schwartz and, in 1992, the Law Offices of Alan J. Schwartz. With the continued growth of the practice, he incorporated on January 1, 2009, and now operates as a Professional Corporation under the name the Law Offices of Alan J. Schwartz, P.C., and serves as Principal and Managing Attorney.
Mr. Schwartz serves as Associate Village Justice of the Incorporated Village of Centre Island.
Mr. Schwartz has served on the faculties of St. John’s University and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, lectured in the Trial Techniques Program of the Hofstra University School of Law and served as a judge on the Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute, the St. John’s University Law Invitational Mock Trial Tournament, and the Nassau County Bar Association National Civil Rights Trial Competition, as well as the New York University Downtown Invitational Classic with the American Mock Trial Association. Mr. Schwartz also serves as a Nassau County Arbitrator, and has been a member of the Theodore Roosevelt American Inn of Court. Mr. Schwartz is a member of the New York States Magistrates Association and the Nassau County Magistrates Association.
Mr. Schwartz is an avid car enthusiast and motorcyclist, served as a member of the Long Island Corvette Owners Association (to which the Firm served as counsel) and a charter member of Long Island Vettes. Mr. Schwartz is also a member of the American Motorcyclist Association and the Harley Owners Group, and served as a member, Road Captain, Activities Director and Assistant Director of the Long Island Chapter, as well as a member of the Woodstock Chapter. The Schwartz family spends their winters skiing at Windham Mountain, where Mr. Schwartz was a founding member of the Ski Windham Commerce Club, and his son actively competed for years as a member of the Windham Mountain Alpine Racing Team, later racing as Captain of the Brandeis Ski Team and the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association.
In his little “spare time”, Mr. Schwartz is an active supporter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Arthritis Foundation, as well as a host of other charitable organizations.
