Andy Simrin grew up in Bakersfield, California and received his bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of California at Berkeley. In graduate school, he worked as a research biologist studying fruit-eating birds in the forests Attorney Andy Simrin in Oregon Supreme Courtof Panama. Andy Simrin graduated cum laude from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in 1991. In law school, he earned awards for outstanding academic achievement in criminal law and as best oral advocate in rounds at the national Environmental Law Moot Court competition. Andy Simrin worked as a judicial clerk in the Oregon Court of Appeals from 1991 to 1993. While working at the Court of Appeals, he co-authored the chapter on Post-Conviction Proceedings in the Oregon State Bar continuing legal education publication Criminal Law. From 1993 to 2002, he worked for the Oregon Public Defender, which is the agency that handles criminal appeals for indigent defendants. As a senior deputy public defender, Andy Simrin served as a team leader and as supervising attorney for the group of attorneys handling parole appeals. Since 2002, Andy Simrin has maintained a solo law practice and continues to focus his practice on criminal appeals and post-conviction cases. He has represented clients in over a thousand cases in the Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Supreme Court.
