Sanford I. (Sandy) Furman was born and raised in New York City, to immigrant parents seeking a new life after living through the second world war. He attended public schools in New York City, and the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he received a B.A. in History, and then stayed on for a Master’s degree in education. He taught high school social studies for eight years near Albany, New York, before moving to Boston to attend Northeastern University School of Law with his wife and two year old daughter in 1982. At Northeastern he took advantage of the law school coop program to work for a divorce lawyer, a legal services office, a mid size insurance defense litigation law firm, and clerk for a judge, giving him a wide range of experience before graduation in areas of family law, criminal law, and civil litigation.
After graduating from law school in 1985 and being admitted to the Massachusetts bar the same year, Attorney Furman worked for law firms in Boston and Framingham for approximately eight years before opening his own firm in 1993. As a former high school teacher, Attorney Furman has always had an interest in working with families and in do what he could to minimize the impact of divorce on children which he views as also being in his client’s best interest. Throughout his experience, first working at other firms and, since 1993, at his own firm, Attorney Furman has honed his skills as a trial lawyer, negotiator, and mediator to best serve his clients.
Based in Newton for many years, Attorney Furman moved his practice to Wellesley in 2005, where he shares space with other lawyers whose practices complement his so that he can offer, either directly or by referral, high quality legal services in all types of cases. The office, at 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, is conveniently located just off exit 21 from Route 128 (I 95).
